Once again, we filled the slots with DJs from all over the country
coming in to showcase their talent and keep your butt on the dance floor!

OUR FEARLESS LEADER
NORFOLK, VA

JAY MOSHER
Jay has been dancing for several years and learning as much as he could. In between his firefighting day-job, he has become a "human sponge" in learning anything and everything. He made his DJ debut at his own blues house party and painted the house a new shade of blue.

He has always brought a new sense of fun and energy to the dance floor no matter what song is on and who he is with...sometimes just dancing by himself. He looks forward to keeping you grooving at night and playign those oh-so-good-classics and some songs you'd never thought of.

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA
ALEX PAPIS
She has been a dancer for several years and has danced all over Florida, New Orleans, Memphis, and Virginia Beach. She has DJed in Tampa, Orlando, and Gainesville multiple times. She moved to Virginia Beach in December of 2009 from Dunedin, FL (which is near Tampa) She has been inspired by many fabulous DJs such as J Wardell, Keith Johnson, Forrest Outman and Matt Kelsey. She really just likes to make people feel good and happy and wanting to dance. She also likes to step out of the box and play songs that people would never think of to play, but love to dance to.

SAN ANTONIO, TX
BEN LUHRMAN
Ben has been DJing swing events in San Antonio for the past three years. His inspiration and music choices come from his father and grandfathers’ love of vintage jazz greats. Ben has been listening to artists such as Jelly Roll Morton, Artie Shaw, Lu Watters, Turk Murphy, and The New Orleans Rhythm Kings since he was a very young boy. His appreciation for quality, danceable tunes makes him a versatile DJ. Ben believes that he can help spread the joy of lindy hop and jazz through his DJing.

DURHAM, NC

DAVE WARNER
Having entertained a worldwide audience from his living room with his music selections on the Dave's Lounge podcast (www.daveslounge.com), he has taken his musical knowledge into the blues dance community, where he's building a reputation as one of the Triangle area's top blues DJs, and as someone who finds great danceable blues tunes where other DJs don't think to look.

Dave has been swing dancing for more than a decade. VBLX 2010 is his first out-of-town event as a blues DJ. Dave also promises not to be too distracted by the World Cup this weekend.

GREENVILLE, NC

MIKE GUZZO
Mike started dancing in 1999, and has been DJing and teaching since 2001. He founded the ECU Swing Dance Club, and has recently worked to help build the Greenville, NC swing scene.

Mike is a constant inpriartion wherever he geos and fun on the dance floor and off. He has DJed and performed in a variety of locations and events. Last year won the distingusihed Inaugural VBLX Blues DJ competition.

NEW YORK CITY, NY
HETHER "LadyBlues" SAMUELS
LadyBlues is Hether's blues alias which she has used since she started organizing blues house parties around NYC. After being disgusted with herself for complaining about music she decided to put her money where her mouth was. And with that, about five or so years ago, Hether began buying music and DJing at the blues parties. Hether currently organizes blues events in NYC through JookJoint Shimmy Blues. She frequently deejays JookJoint Shimmy's bi-weekly blues dances and some out of town dances.

Hether believes that like the dancer, the blues DJ needs to be connected to the music. She loves to see the crinching and contortions in facial expressions when music lovers really feel the music. Then, she knows they get it. She loves to see it in the blues dancers as they create cheoreography on the dance floor.

NORFOLK, VA

KAIT MAHAR
She started DJing around Knoxville soon after acquiring a laptop in 2006. After the Knoxvillains properly indoctrinated her in the art of not killing the floor, at least not too often, she moved off to Virginia, where she can regularly be found spinning in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and every so often up in Richmond. She aims for a wide variety of swing, but gets a little stuck on high energy music, the classic big bands, New Orleans jazz, and, well, anything featuring a tuba. You might've heard her at KLXs 06-07-08 and/or VBLX 08.
WISE OLD SAGE

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA

JEFF MILLER
As a Chicago-native with the Blues still in his heart, and a closet blues harp player, no wonder he got easily hooked into Blues Dance after his first exchange's late night blues room and all went to Hell after that. He helped create local Swing Virginia & Dirt Cheap Blues events to keep the scenes alive.

He's been DJing since '03 all over the country at workshops, exchanges, house parties and wherever music is to be played from NY to Vegas to TX to IL and knows where else. He has been the house DJ since '04 for local events. Plus his lack of sleep helps his library growing to find the songs to keep your butt on the dance floor and out of the chair. He'll crank out your faves, plus his famous curveballs that make you say "What the hell is this? But...let's dance!"

DURHAM, NC

JOELLE ANDREWS
She began her dancing career quite accidentally. Hip hop, ballroom, salsa and Argentine tango later, she found Lindy Hop. In 2006, she was introduced to Blues Dancing and has been bluesing since. She loves the connection based partnering, and of course the music.

Joelle is a co-founder of, as well as organizer and DJ with, the Raleigh Durham Blues Dancers. She has attended many national blues workshop weekends and exchanges, including Austin Blues Party, Blues Muse and Enter the Blues. When DJing, Joelle enjoys playing all styles of blues, but gives special preference to classic female vocalists, double entendre lyrics, and her own special blend of modern-indie-gone-bluesy.

RALEIGH, NC

KRISTY MILLIKEN
She is a native of Music City - Nashville, Tennessee, where she began dancing shortly after she was born. No, really. At 17 days old, she had her debut to the dancing world with her parents on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry as the "Youngest Dancin' Baby" on the television show Dancin' USA. In 2003, she was finally introduced to Lindy hop and became an instant addict. She began DJing, teaching, and organizing local and regional events in 2005, and has helped develop four dance groups in the greater Nashville area.

Kristy has DJed and taught at many events in the southeast, and has also been a frequent Lindy and blues DJ in Raleigh, NC where she now resides. You may have recently heard her spinning in Raleigh, Nashville, Memphis (Bluesalicious '09 and '10), Charleston (CHEX3 & 4), and Virginia Beach (VBLX '09). She enjoys spinning music with undeniable musicality, songs that make dancers think a little bit outside of their box, and music that just feels good. Her musical influences include Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Jimmie Lunceford, Nina Simone, Solomon Burke, and John Lee Hooker. She has recently invested in a large swing and jazz vinyl library that she loves to spin from as well.

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA

KATY LARSON
Katy a.k.a. "The Jello Fairy" has been dancing since 2004 when she started with Lindy Hop and never looked back. She got her start DJing with the Connecticut Swing Dance Society (CSDS) back in 2006 and has not stopped since! She has DJed Lindy, Blues, and West Coast Swing at local dances in CT and Virginia including for CSDS, Swing Shoes, and West Coast Groove in Connecticut, and at Rumba, the Attucks, and Lindy Riot in Virginia.

She also has DJed at events such as VBLX 2007 and 2008, CTLX 2007, the DCBX 2006, and the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster Blues Bomb Beach Weekend 2006. Katy is always looking to find the right mix of music to keep people dancing, often into the night and on till dawn!

NORFOLK, VA

MICHELLE POOLE
Ms. Michelle "Mishimmy" Poole burst onto the swing scene in the year of our Lord, 2002 AD. She quickly made a name for herself by mastering the move that is known as "the shimmy". (If there is any doubt in your mind, just check the "About Me" on her Facebook profile.)

However, not being content with just that, she decided to tackle the daunting task of becoming the world's most shimmying DJ. She quickly accomplished this by traveling through time and space to collect music, poles, and hearts. She broke many hearts of those hearts and caused the state of Utah to go into a depression (both economically and emotionally) when she recently relocated to Norfolk, VA.

She's giggly, sometimes funny, likes to be handsy on Facebook (and in real life), and is just shakin' what her daddy gave her.

NORFOLK, VA

NEVE FLETCHER
Neve starting Djing in the VA Beach area recently and has been dancing for over six years. She began her Swing career at Jam Cellar in the DC area. The dancing scene has taken her all over the country including; Denver, Seattle, Boston, Atlanta, Charleston, Philadelphia, New York, Pittsburgh, Knoxville and more! Neve especially loves rockin out to live music and tries to bring that energy into her sets.

Her taste ranges from more traditional 20s & 30s Lindy to a wide variety of blues. She also enjoys teaching with her dance partner Aaron Loehr. Her favorite color is purple.
